The longest serving call answering service receptionist
Sheena Fisher-Hutchings, Receptionist

How long have you worked for Verbatim? It must be nearly six years now. I think I'm one of the longest-serving receptionists!

What do you like about working here? I think it's lovely. The hours suit me - I've got two young children - and the management are always prepared to be flexible. They're friendly, too, there's a genuine open-door policy and they really listen. The team of receptionists are great and the atmosphere in the office is really nice. I really enjoy coming into the office in the morning - which is always a good start!

What gives you the most satisfaction about your work? People do ring up and thank us; in fact this morning I came in and had a message specifically for me, which was great. I'd dealt with a rather difficult call for one of our clients and she'd rung up to say that she knows he can be a tricky customer and thanked me for dealing with him so well. It's nice when they appreciate what we do. I also enjoy the fact that we get to talk to such a range of people; all calls need to be handled differently. It's also great - having worked in customer services for a big corporate headquarters - to do a job you can't take home with you. There's no work outstanding for us at the end of the day, which makes it almost stress-free.

How would you describe what Verbatim do? We offer more of a customer services role than a reception one. We're not just putting calls through; we take detailed messages and have to learn about each company and what they do so we can advise callers accordingly. What we say isn't scripted, we have to rely on strong people skills and quick reactions.

I hear you like treading the boards... Yes! I was in Disco Inferno, a music, which the Newbury Nomads put on early in October at the Newbury Corn Exchange. I've been doing "am dram" for years but had a few years off because of my young family. This show was my first one in four years! I was pretty nervous but once I got on stage I felt fine. A friend was directing it and her shows are always a lot of fun, so I knew I'd have a great time. It was one of our biggest shows ever - we had 50 in the chorus! My next show will probably be our Spring Concert which we'll put on in April.
