Spotlight on Jackie Aukett
Spotlight on: Jackie Aukett
Receptionist
- How long have you worked for Verbatim?
Eight years – I think I’m the second-longest serving receptionist!
- Have you done virtual reception work before?
No – before this I worked at a firm of insurance brokers.
- How would you describe Verbatim's service?
I’d call it a reception service. We’re definitely not a call centre – apart from anything else, we don’t make outbound cold calls and we’re not trying to sell anything. We’re providing a service.
- What do you like about working here?
The rest of the team are so friendly, we are all like an extended family. There is hardly any staff turnover so we all know each other really well and look out for each other.
- What gives you the most satisfaction about your work?
It’s great when a client rings you up to say “you did a good job”, “you handled that well” and “we think you’re fantastic” – all of which do happen here!
- Tell us why you’re running the Race for Life in July.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2006 and had a full mastectomy in May 2006. Thankfully I didn’t have to have radiotherapy and I have the all-clear now, but because we’re all so close here, it shocked all my colleagues. They all rallied round at the time, and cancer research is still a cause close to their hearts two years on. When the Newbury Race for Life was confirmed for 2008, loads of us decided to run it to raise some funds for breast cancer research.
- How much money have you raised?
I’ve had about £260 pledged to me. I’ve already filled two sponsor forms and I have loads of friends and family still to approach!
- Are you enjoying the training?
I have to admit I’m not! It’s really not my thing, jogging around the streets of Thatcham. But I’m doing all of my training with my colleague Angela, which makes it a bit easier. I am determined to finish the 5K, even if I have to crawl round on my hands and knees!
